Irving Shipbuilding Inc. (ISI) has a long standing ISO 9001:2000 accreditation. We’ve also implemented a continuous improvement certification program that focuses on our key processes and uses the latest in Six Sigma/Process Improvement tools. We also use LEAN principles to eliminate waste, ensuring we have efficient and effective procedures.

ISI operates a Process Improvement Group including employees from a range of departments, represented by all levels of the organization including tradespeople, who were tasked with identifying areas for improvement, analyzing performance and implementing solutions. The group is seeded with 6-Sigma Black and Green Belt qualified engineers.

ISI is the first ship repair and newbuild organization to have implemented a Balanced Scorecard system for management reporting and driving continuous improvement. This systematic approach allows us to constantly trim schedules and costs without jeopardizing quality, health, safety or environmental performance.

Our attention to Health, safety and environmental excellence is recognized as being world-class and has been commended by clients such as ExxonMobil and SeaRiver.

Certifications

Our facilities meet a wide range of internationally-accepted standards too including:

  • Canadian Welding Bureau W47.1 for steel
  • Canadian Welding Bureau W47.2M for aluminum
  • ABS approval for stainless steel classing of shafts
  • ABS approval for tailshaft repair
